OpenAI Codex Settings Let You Teach AI How You Work

OpenAI Codex Settings Let You Teach AI How You Work

OpenAI has released a settings system for Codex — its new task-completing AI agent — that lets users personalize how it works before they even type a command.

Codex goes beyond chat. It creates documents, analyzes data, connects tools, and produces real deliverables. But without knowing who you are, it guesses. The new settings fix that.

Users can now configure four key areas:

**Personalization** — Tell Codex your role, team, and work context so outputs match your actual job from the start.

**Detail Level** — Choose between concise summaries or deep analysis as your default, eliminating the need to specify every time.

**Permissions** — Control which files, tools, and apps Codex can access, keeping sensitive data safe while enabling powerful automation.

**Workflow Style** — Set your preferred tone, format, and presentation to match organizational standards.

The result: instead of spending time re-explaining what you need, Codex already knows. Ask for a sales summary and it delivers bullet points with charts — because it knows you're a sales manager who prefers visual data.

This is part of OpenAI's broader push to move AI from conversation partner to autonomous worker. Codex Academy launched alongside these settings with guides covering setup, first tasks, and top 10 use cases.

The message is clear: the AI that works best is the one that knows you best.
